More about the 1889 Universal Exhibition. The Exposition Universelle of 1889 was a World's Fair held in Paris, France in 1889. It was held during the year of the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. In 1888, French engineer Gustave Eiffel submitted his draft to those responsible for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he would build his tower a year later, in 1889. The tower was inaugurated on 31 March 1889.
