More about Van Gogh and his years in France:
Vincent Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands in 1853. In 1886, the Dutchman moved to Paris where he shared an apartment with his younger brother Theo. This is where Van Gogh discovered the French Impressionists. Then he moved to the south of France and was impressed by the sunlight he found in Provence. His work grew brighter in color during his stay in Arles in 1888 where he painted Cafe in Arles, and in St Remy de Provence in 1889, where he painted Starry Night. Vincent Van Gogh died in Auvers sur Oise, near Paris, in 1890 at age 37, probably from a self-inflicted gun shot. Van Gogh will remain one of the greatest painters of all times, and several of his masterpieces are worth over $100 million.
