Antique Ship Bottle from Normandy, France.

Ship bottles can be a nice piece of home decor. We’ve sourced this antique French ship bottle in Normandy where it had been on display on a fireplace for decades.

Click the picture to the right to see details: this is a beautiful, traditional three-masted, square-sail ship, complete with masts, sails and strings. There is a little French flag hanging off the back sail.

How do you put a ship inside a bottle? Putting a ship inside a bottle when it is bigger than the bottle opening seems like a mystery. One common way to achieve this is to rig the masts of the ship and raise them up after you have placed the ship inside the bottle. Build the ship with its sails flat, put it inside the bottle, pull up the masts using strings and voila! You now have a beautiful ship in a bottle.
