Vintage Venetian Murano Glass White Floral Wedding Cake Bead Long Necklace

Gorgeous vintage Venetian Murano art glass long necklace from the 1950's, possibly earlier. It features white Fiorato Wedding Cake round beads, gold foil swirl white cylinder beads, smaller white glass round and shiny brown round beads. All the white glass beads are accented with gold tone bead caps. The necklace is hand knotted between each bead with brown silk cord.

The 7 round wedding cake beads are 14 to 16 mm and the 8 cylinder shaped beads with gold swirl piping are 22 mm long.

It can be worn as a long necklace or doubled.

It is in very good vintage condition with minimal loss of gold tone on the clasp and metal beads at the back.

The lamp-work method is the most time-consuming method of glass bead-making. Each bead must be formed individually. Using a torch for the heat, Murano glass rods and tubes are heated to a molten state and wrapped around a metal rod until the desired shape is achieved. Several layers of different colored glass as well as gold, silver or copper are used to produce the desired effect. Wedding cake "Fiorato" beads are decorated with glass overlays featuring roses, swirls and dots as well as metal foil.
