Vintage Portuguese Garnet Rose Gold & Silver Marcasite Brooch

Fabulous vintage Portuguese garnet, rose gold and silver marcasite brooch from the 1980's. A beautiful faceted oval deep red garnet is set in the center with a rose gold border, with around an open silver and marcasite design.

This brooch has a the Portuguese eagle head mark and 835 at the back. 835 is one of several European silver jewelry markings; it denotes 83.5% silver and 16.5% copper. The second mark has the letters PPA for the jeweler's mark. Portuguese hallmarks usually have the first letter of the town where it was made, so possibly one of the P is for Porto. 

It is in excellent vintage condition.
